Festival FESTIVAL DI MORGANA

Festival di Morgana is an international puppet festival focusing on folk and contemporary culture, with particular reference to puppetry, and promoting the trans-national mobility of cultural operators and the circulation of artistic and cultural works and products to support intercultural dialogue. It is originated as a Review of the opera dei pupi (Sicilian traditional puppetry that in 2001 was declared by UNESCO a Masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity).

A recent partnership was created with the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Palermo within the the first edition of BAM-Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo,(Palermo, 10 February-12 March 2017). This is a festival of theatre, music and visual arts focused on the Mediterranean area. Aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue in this borderline area, it promotes and safeguards artistic and cultural heritage in all its expressions. It for-saw the partnership with lots of local, national and international organizations and entities and scheduled events in different cultural sites of the city of Palermo. Within this festival, the Association for the Conservation of Folk Traditions organized an international meeting entitled “Arcipelago Morgana” (March 8, 2017) involving the main representatives of puppet and image theatre in the Mediterranean area. During this meeting an agreement was signed aimed at the creation of an international network of puppet and image theatre of the Mediterranean area involving all of the organizations involved (Associazione per la conservazione delle tradizioni popolari – Italy; Puppet Festival, Turkey; Domia Productions – Tunis; Douma Tanja – Marocco; Unima Middle East&North Africa – France; Association Les Amis du centre Larbi Tebessi – Algeria). The agreement foresees some activities, organized and promoted in synergy: research campaigns; seminars, conferences, Summer schools, workshops;the creation of a permanent artistic committee of the directors of these festivals. The importance of such an agreement, as the anteprima of our annual festival di Morgana, is crucial if you consider the geographical position of Sicily and the increase of immigration flows. Believing in the force of intercultural dialogue, mutual respect and culture, Sicily, where thousands of immigrant people arrive every day, is the first place that should and is working on the relationship with the “Other”. The Festival di Morgana thus continues to be sensitive towards current events, and to work against any form of racism, adopting peace as its ultimate goal.

Festival name MIRAMIRO

Country BELGIUM

About the Festival Miramiro festival wants to be a stage for a wide variety of qualitative performances of circus, dance , theatre, performance, … in public spaces bringing people together and offering something to experience.

Website https://www.miramiro.be/en/miramiro/

Miramiro has a lot of partners, for a lot of different reasons. Some partnerships have very practical reasons like for example the logistics of the festival… others are more about our aim to reach a broad audience and include as many as possible, like with organisations working with socially vulnerable groups, … or partnerships for artistic purposes … Whatever the reason a partnership always has to be mutual beneficial for all involved and help achieve the goals of Miramiro. The idea is always to help each other and to find partners with the skills or knowledge that Miramiro lacks and vice versa in order to do things that would not be possible on our own.

Miramiro is also part of several (international) networks. We are member of these network because we want the Flemish sector to be represented in these (without claiming to be spokesman for the sector) and help spread knowledge on the Flemish sector. As one of the bigger players in the Flemish field regarding circus and performing arts in public space (read having the budget and time to go to these kind of meetings) Miramiro sees this as one of its tasks. On the other hand are these networks important opportunities to exchange information (like keeping up with new creations for example as mentioned in number one), but also share best practices between colleagues and are the meetings often the place where new collaboration projects come to life and where to meet partners to work with on these projects.
